Have you ever heard of John Titor?
No? Well let me fill you in… because this is one of the great internet phenomenons…
John Titor was a visitor from the year 2036 who arrived in 2000 and left a few months later in 2001. During his stay he posted on several bulletin boards under the nickname Timetravel_0 with many predictions about the future and even photos of his time machine. During the time he answered almost every question asked of him, and then in March 2001, disappeared never to return. He has become a bit of a cult figure on the web, there is a documentary movie coming (trailer here on Timetravel 0 MySpace page) which was almost blocked by the CIA (Hmm…) and it has spawned several books. There is a good recap at Wikipedia and JohnTitor.com
The aftermath is interesting and there are plenty of ‘would be time travellers’ who now claim to be amongst us (hilarious example here). Interestingly many people believe John Titor was real… If he was/is real, then be very worried, because World War 3 happens in 2015. 3 Billion people die. I’m sure this story has a lot more to offer because real or just a good hoax there is a fantastic mystery to be unravelled… Who really started this? Why? Where did they go? We shall wait and see.

To be continued…?
If you need more, just Google John Titor - hours of reading awaits…

It’s nice to get recognition in an official government publication about the Digital Industry in Sydney. Amnesia is listed with a select handful of digital innovators alongside NineMSN, Disney, BigPond, ABC. It’s pretty short and sweet, but the doc is quite a good profile of the Digital Industry as a whole in Sydney.

Pictaps is the latest creation from that Roxik guy, an extremely talented flash warlock. Draw a character and watch him/her dance center-stage while surrounded by a crowd of adoring clones.
Create your own character and post a link to it in the comments. Here’s some we did:
My favourites so far are Lego Man and this unnamed one. Submit your own via the comments

I think RFID (Radio Frequency ID) will play a massive role in developing technology and everyday life over the next few years. The potential applications for the Advertising industry are enormous, (though relatively untapped at this point). Here’s a story from the BBC website with some interesting new news on new RFID tags produced by Hitachi.

Personally, I don’t like dialing in for voicemail. (I’m one of those people who wants all my comms to end up in one place). Two companies (Simulscribe and Callwave) offer a service which takes your voicemail (regardless of telco) , converts it dynamically and sends you an email + the original voice message in email. Note: It’s US only at the moment as far as I can tell. If anyone finds an Aussie version, please post.
Nice technology. Sort of thing the Telco’s should offer as standard with your mobile phone.
Callwave:

Has a free service + a premium version.

Offers it for $9.99 US p/m

Only thing to note is that you have to provide your details to access your voicemail (password etc).

Geeks are known to live, literally, at their desks. Their workspace can become somewhat personalized and cluttered. Sometimes massively so. If you think your workspace is one of the best (meaning worst), hop on over to CrunchGear
and check out their workspace challenge. Whoever sends in a picture with the most ridiculously horrible workspace wins a new Steelcase chair.
I think i should send a pict of my table in…

This is a great stock Photography Search site.
It searches heaps of image libraries at once (2,000,000 images). The thing I like is that you can configure what you see on the page (size of thumbnails etc) as opposed to the getty images website which is a long (web 1.0) scrolling 3 column page which does not make the most of the screen.

ComputerLove has been a great place to see wonderful design from around the world for a long time. If you’re a designer, this is one of those fairly essential bookmarks. It’s updated pretty much every day.

Feb 8 2007: Last night we were honoured to receive the Interactive Agency of the Year award from AdNews. It was a great night and something we are most proud of. Thanks to everyone who supported us on the night, and also to our great clients who gave us the chance to produce some wonderful work over the last 12 months. We shouldn’t forget it has been a huge year for digital in general and we genuinely thank all the other Australian digital agencies that work so hard to grow our industry.
Finally, to cap off a wonderful day we also received an honourary award from David Clutterbuck, Editor of AdNews.
“The People’s Choice Award: AdNews judges finally confirmed what everyone has known for some time – Amnesia is one of the best digital agencies in the region. “
Kind words indeed. Thanks AdNews for a wonderful night.

Todd, Iain and Terry.
