Bring on Minority Report Displays

Following on from Stephan’s post about multi touch missile command, Microsoft recently unveiled a multi-touch prototype called TouchWall. Running on a standard version of Vista with custom built software called Plex, TouchWall is three infrared lasers constantly scanning a surface while an infrared camera detects when the lasers are broken. Throw out the whiteboard, imagine turning any wall into an interactive display! The best part about this technology is that it made of relatively inexpensive components. Take a rear projector, infrared camera, three infrared lasers, a computer running Vista and a plexiglass screen – voila Minority Report.
